Will epoxy hold up to hot tire pickup in Houston?+
Yes — if the right system is used. 100% solids polyaspartic and polyurethane topcoats are specifically rated for hot tire resistance. Water-based systems and thin-film products are not. Every Astro Epoxy installation uses a topcoat rated for hot tire pickup.
How long before I can park on my new garage floor?+
Most systems are ready for foot traffic within 24 hours and vehicle traffic within 48–72 hours. Polyaspartic topcoat systems cure faster than standard epoxy and are often ready for vehicles the same day.
How does Houston humidity affect the installation?+
Humidity affects epoxy adhesion significantly. We test every slab for moisture vapor emission before application. If moisture levels are too high, we treat the slab before proceeding. This is a non-negotiable step that some contractors skip — it's why their floors fail.
Is the floor slip resistant?+
Yes. Anti-slip additives are included in the topcoat as standard. Flake systems also provide texture that improves traction. If you need a specific slip resistance rating for a commercial application, ask us and we will specify accordingly.
What's the odor like during installation?+
100% solids systems have significantly lower VOC content than solvent-based products. Most installations produce a mild chemical odor during application that dissipates within a few hours. We recommend keeping the garage ventilated during and immediately after installation.
How do I maintain an epoxy garage floor?+
Routine maintenance is simple — sweep or dust mop regularly, mop with a pH-neutral cleaner for deeper cleaning. Avoid harsh acidic cleaners. Most Astro Epoxy floors look as good after 5 years as the day they were installed with basic care.
Can you coat a floor with existing cracks or damage?+
Yes. Minor cracks and surface damage are repaired as part of our standard installation process. Severe structural cracking or heaving may require concrete repair before coating. We assess every floor during the estimate and are upfront about what we find.
What systems do you offer and what's the difference?+
We install three primary systems — metallic pigment (decorative art floor), polymer flake (most popular, maximum durability), and resin quartz (commercial-grade chemical resistance). Each uses 100% solids industrial base coats. The difference is the decorative layer and topcoat system. Visit our Colors page to explore all options.
